Menu 4/30/07

Today was a good day eating wise. I think I made some decent choices. I really need to get better about eating at night, I feel like I eat ALOT at night. It hasn't affected my weight loss, but as far as maintenance goes, I know I need to get into eating bigger meals, and just low point snacks. Perhaps I will try to work on that the next couple weeks. I updated my tracker at the top of the page to show my ultimate goal, not just my WW goal of 140. I would like to stay between 135-140, so I set the tracker goal as 137, right in the middle of the range. Half way there.

Took a nice walk with the dog, for 45 minutes, and I didn't eat any of the activity points, I wasn't hungry for them!

Here is the menu.

And a New Week Begins!

I have yet to decide what my new activity for this week is going to be, but I better start thinking! A guy I was out with on Saturday, "R", said he'd teach me to play disc golf, and I think it would be fun. I don't necessarily know that I would like him to teach me though. perhaps I can get one of my brothers to go look like an idiot with me, being they don't know how to play either! It will be so gorgeous out I know I won't want to go to any fitness classes, I can just go out walking.

Speaking of which, I think tonight when I get home I'm going to take Duke (my 4 year old golden retriever) out for a nice long walk. It's 70 and there isn't a cloud in the sky. Plus being out of the house like that, keeps me out of the food, lol. We are having tuna salad sandwiches for dinner tonight, and should be good, and low in points.

Alright promised an update on the dating situation. I haven't had anymore crazies who've yelled at me for telling them I'm not interested, which is always good. You know they saying "When It Rains it Pours?" My love life is kinda like that. I will go months without anyone interested, or a date, and then I'll have like 4 guys at once interested. Then I have to pick cause I'm totally incapable of juggling 4 men, and then the one I pick dumps me, and then I'm back to square one, it's fun, really it is. Can you tell how much I love dating?

So right now I have three potential prospects, who have no advanced to talking on the phone. I might as well just use names, because there are starting to be initial overlaps, and well that will just get confusing. Currently, I have three left. I went out with another one this weekend, Rick, and he was a nice guy, just not my type, so I don't foresee it going anywhere.

So the ones left are Nic, Chad and Ryan. All great guys. Chad already asked me out for next weekend, although I'm not sure which day we're going to go out. But he's 34, and from a small city about 35-40 minutes away. He has a good job, education, family, ect. Just seems like a good all-around guy, he wasn't very good on the phone though, kinda boring. I honestly didn't think he was that interested, so I was surprised when he asked me out.

Then there is Nic. Nic is 26 and also seems like a great guy, he's from another small town about 30-40 minutes away. Has a great job, what seems to be a big, close knit family. Loves the outdoorsy stuff like I do. Just seems like he'd be the type of guy who is always up for challenge. I like those types. Plus, I'm a challenge, so it's nice to have someone who can put up with that ;) He hasn't asked me out yet, but I can see it coming soon.

Lastly, right now there is Ryan. He's definitely not the last on the list or anything. He's 32 and He's from Ohio, a town about 45 minutes south of me. He also seems like a great guy with a good family, good education, hard working, has a good job, and a company he runs on the side during the summer. This one really impressed me. We talked on the phone for like 40 minutes last night, and I'm not a phone person. We actually got into some political discussions (an interesting thing to chat about the first time you talk nonetheless). He seemed like a great guy. No date yet with this one.

So, I've got my plate full. Three great guys! I just hope one out of the three is as good of a package in person as they seem through email/phone conversations. Because anyone who has dated online knows this isn't always the case!

Other than that, I have no excitement in my life. I'm predicting a rather lazy night after my walk. I will post a menu, but until then, take care!

A gorgeous Sunday

Today was a crazy busy day, and it was soooo gorgeous outside. I started the day by going to a nearby park to meet one of my girlfriends for a nice hike, we took our dogs and had a blast, we managed to stay out a little over and hour, but I only counted an hour for Activity Points. After that, I went over to my parents, and my youngest brother and I went wall climbing. We managed to climb for about an hour and a half before we just couldn't even pull ourselves up anymore. So I counted 45 minutes for climbing (half the time) and the other 45mins for belaying (aka, holding the rope for my brother to climb). So I totally earned all of my 11 Activity Points today! Yes! I actually didn't even feel like eating any of them, but I know if I don't eat at least half that I will be STARVING tomorrow, so I did. When I just go out and have a nice walk, and get only like 2 points, it's not that big of a deal, but with 11 it is. I really wish they would allow you to eat them within 24 hours. No such luck.

As far as the crappy weigh in on Saturday/Sunday this week, I'm not letting it get me down, because I know it was just a TOM gain, plus, my clothes are like falling off me, it's awesome.

On the dating front, couple new prospects, I'll lay them out tomorrow :)

A Re-Weigh

So I re-weighed again this morning, and I got 152.0, twice in a row, good enough for me. It's a 1.6lb gain, but for me, that's a normal cycle gain, so no big deal. Just makes me feel better I got a constant weight. So onto the next week where I will root for a loss!

Saturday

Well today was a generally good day, well, besides the scale incident this morning. Which, I've decided I am going to re-weigh in the morning, and if the weight is still higher, I will edit the weight (being I'm an online only subscriber). For the time being, I used the first weight.

I stayed pretty active all day. I didn't get up and go to yoga like I was intending, but I'm going to go monday. Instead I got up, weighed in, pondered that a bit, and then washed my truck. After that, went to IKEA and stopped at the local greenhouse to look at their flowers and vegetable plants. They has a good selection. I want to plant some onions and peppers this year. I've never exactly gardened before, but being on Weight Watchers, and eating better, I go through more peppers and onions, I figure it would be WAY cheaper to grow my own and then chop and freeze them to use throughout the winter. Produce is expensive here in the winter! So we'll see how that goes. After that, I can home, went for a bike ride, ate dinner and then went out for a drink with "R", a young and successful guy I met on Myspace. Things seemed to have went well, and he said he would teach me to play disc golf. Perhaps one of my "new things" in the coming weeks. We'll see where things go, but hey, it might be promising. After that, came home, went on a nice long walk with the dog, and into the hot tub I went. Now I'm just waiting around, cause I have to go get my two brothers at the airport at 1130, yuck!

Tomorrow, planning to go on a long bike ride with one of my girlfriends, then wall climbing with my brother. So I should get some Activity Points tomorrow for sure!

Alright here is the menu, report on the re-weigh in the morning.

Weigh In Dilemma

Well I had a little bit of a weigh in dilemma this morning. I don't really know what to do about it.

A little bit of history. I've been weighing myself every Saturday morning, right when I get up, on a scale I newly purchasesd when I started WW in January.

Typically I step on once, get the weight, and then step on a second time just to "recheck" I've ALWAYS gotten the same weight. Today I stepped on the first time, got 150.4, which was a maintain, hey, I'm good with that. Then I rechecked 152.4. Again, 152.4, then again 154. Then again 153. So I'm at loss of which weight to use.

I've talked to a couple of the girls on the board and got varying opinions. I think I'm going to go with the first weight (because it's favorable) and then re-weigh in the morning to see what I get, TOM should be along today.

I'll just take the average of today and tomorrow's weigh in's and run with it. Sometimes I get so frustrated. I know I didn't overeat, so I know the gain is just a cycle, but it's a good way to throw me off the happy losing track. Oh Well!

Menu 4/27/07

Well here's the menu for today. I did well, only used .5 flex. I drank 128oz of water today. Someone asked if I eat all the snacks under my "anytime" at once, or just a night. The answer is no, everything under anytime is consumed at anytime other than meals. So it's spread out.

Well here's the menu, Weigh In tomorrow. Sausage Pasta Stew Recipe tomorrow also.

Oh yah I almost forgot!

I'm bored today, can you tell?

So my a new personal goal last week was to try something new every week. Whether it was going to a new place to eat, a new fitness class, do something I've never done, it just had to be new.

So, this week, is kind of an extension of my last weeks "new". I'm trying Yoga tomorrow again, a new place called Continuity Yoga. I'm going for a session in the morning called Healthy Backs. I'm hoping that this will relieve some of the tension in my back, as that is where I get tight from stress. So I didn't like Yoga the first time, but I'm giving it another shot. I'll keep ya posted.

A new challenge

Well I told Anne over at Weight Watchers, Eh? that it would also be my goal to get off my arse in the evening, because I've been doing too much sitting around. So, while I was reading my daily reads, I came across Shelley's blog, and she said she was joining the WOMAN Challenge. So I decided I was going to join too! Do I need this to get me motivated? Not really, but does it look like fun? Sure does! Plus I can track my progress on a little map as I'm moving across the midwest, that's cool! So, join away, whether you need the motivation or not, it should be a blast! You have until May 13th!

More later,
Kate

A Rainy Thursday..

Well this post is going to be shorter today, this I promise. No applause necessary.

No more crazys on the personals today...luckily. Although I have met several nice "candidates" so to speak, and two of them have my phone number, we shall see who calls! We will call one "N" and the other "C". N and C both seem like great guys, N I think is a tad more my speed, he's outdoorsy, he's cute, has a good job, and is 26. C is also great, cute, close to his family, own downfall is he's 34. I don't know why that seems like such an age difference, it's under 10 years. If he asks, I'll definitely go out. I'm not turning down any dates, it's my new motto "at least give it a chance!".

It's been rainy, and kinda depressing here today, especially after all the nice weather the last couple days. But on a high note, its suppose to warm up, and be sunny on Sunday, so it gives me something to look forward too. Plus even with it raining Friday and Saturday, I have indoor stuff I have to get done...like cleaning. Yuck!

Eating wise, today has been good. I'm planning on Shrimp stir-fry for dinner. I always have Shrimp stir-fry when the roommate isn't home because she doesn't like shrimp, so I never can make it for both of us to enjoy. It's yummy, and very point friendly.

I also get to see my girlfriend D tonight. I'm excited because we haven't just gotten to hang out and catch up in quite sometime. So I'm going over to see her, and see her 3 year old daughter, I'm excited, and it gets me out of the house, which is even better because it keeps me from grazing in the kitchen and using points. I love the nights when have quite a few points left and can have a really yummy snack!

Anyways, menu later.

Until tomorrow, be healthy, be happy!

The Dating Saga Continues

So, I have another Yahoo Personals story, but we'll get to that in a minute.

First off, I finally found a home for the puppy that I have been fretting over for the past week. Turns out one of the guys who I thought would take him never got the initial message I left him, and just happened to stop by work today and went right over a got the poor thing. This guy and his wife are both older, retired people, and they bought a golden retriever puppy about a 18 months ago. Well the dog ended up having some very rare disease and passed away around Christmas Time. They had been looking for a new puppy, and this guy worked out perfect. So he has a great home. I almost cried when he said he would take him. I guess prayers work!

So Rosie O'Donnell is leaving the view. Now I really dislike Rosie, I never liked her period, but I really didn't like her after the view, and all the trump stuff (he's an ass too, don't worry), but she's just a loud mouth. I was wondering how long Barbra Walters was going to put up with her on The View, well apparently her tenure is done in June. I watched the video of Rosie announcing it on People.com, and you can see Barbra sitting next to her, and she just looks like she hates Rosie. It's really quite entertaining.

Onto the dating story of the day. I swear to god when I was in "the dating pool" three years ago, it wasn't nearly this hard, nor were their nearly as many smart asses. So today I open up my yahoo personals mail to see I several messages. I have a couple in which seem like nice guys and a couple that just aren't my type. You know, everyone has a type. So I nicely send the couple that aren't my type a "quick reply", basically a pre-fab message saying I just met someone and want to see what develops. Figure it's nicer than just being like hey not your not my type, sorry. Hey I've gotten it before, that's cool. Well this one guy sends me an email back, and this is what is says, we shall call him "T".

"So why are you still out here looking...? You are just blowing me off...too bad. Your type will never find the right person because you won't give a guy a chance. I guess it's my looks...not my personality or financial standing. Im sorry to of expressed an interest in you. Take care."

So, being the smart ass that I am, I of course replied:

T,

I can tell your a very bitter individual, And I apologize that you live your life that way.

Let me break this down for you.

Your Age: 39 The Age Range I want: 25-35
Your Body Type: Thick. Body Type I want: Slim, Slender, Fit, Athletic, Average.
Your Martial Status: Divorced. What I want: Single-Never Married
Kids: You don't Want. I want them.

So even had I not just met someone, we are clearly not a fit, so perhaps you should read the other person's wants also, because in the game of dating, what they want matters also.

Good Luck in your search, hopefully you'll find someone who is willing to deal with you.

Then I blocked him...

Seriously, some of these guys just don't get it. I mean I was just trying to be nice, saying I wasn't interested, what's honestly so wrong with not being interested in someone? I never get that offended when someone doesn't message me. Just figure oh well, I'm not their type.

Geesh..

Diet wise everything is going good. Looking forward to weigh in on Saturday, as I should hit the 140's, go me! I am going to post a recipe for Baked Parmesan Fish tonight, had it last night, and it was A+++ and very low point. Have to love fish. My new addictions of the week at dill pickles (why did I never realize these were 0 points!) and the Weight Watchers Carrot Cakes, yum!

Alright time to wrap up at work. Menu Tonight.

I'm in Healthy Range

So I was just sitting here, trying to avoid the obvious (work) and decided to re-visit what I wanted my ultimate goal to be for Weight Watchers. While researching this, I noticed something, I am back in the healthy weight range provided by Weight Watchers. Now, I may only be .6 pounds from being unhealthy again, but it feels great, glad I finally made it here, and I made it to my 10% too.

Now my next goal is the 140's, which I haven't been in probably since high school, hell, it might have been since like my Sophomore or Junior year of High School. But what the heck, I'll be happy when I hit 149.9....it means the 140's. I might be there this weekend.

The every dubious job of picking a goal weight is now upon me. When I set out on this journey I put it to 140, because that was dead in the middle of my weight range, and in high school, that's where I've always wanted to be. Now I am thinking I would like to hover between 135-140lbs. What do you guys think? How have you picked your goals?

On another note it's gorgeous around here today, again. I did sleep much last night because of the puppy incident . So while I would love to get out for a bike ride, I might just be too bushed to do it. I had intentions of taking a nice long ride tonight, like 8 miles or so. We'll see.

So, I'm single, and I'm back in the dating world, it's not easy, especially after being in a relationship for the last 2.5 years. I've two rather interesting experiences thus far. Let me tell you about them, I'm sure you will get a laugh.

First, I met this guy on Yahoo Personals a couple weeks ago, seemed nice enough. We'll call him "S". Well S and I wrote a few emails back and fourth. I found him on Myspace, and we emailed back and fourth a couple times, but nothing really came of it. Really I thought his emails were kinda boring, and while I asked him questions, and he answered the questions he never really asked me anything back, which led me to believe he wasn't interested. No big deal, we'd talked in maybe 5 or 6 emails. He sent one email a bit ago, a response to one of mine, that didn't really ask me anything to answer, so I just kinda blew it off. Well this morning, I get a email from him saying he deleted me from his friends because I never responded to his email and that was rude. And he wanted to let me know why he deleted me, rather than be like me and not offer him any reason for cutting off contact. Can we say hello, needy? after a few email, geesh.

Now this other one isn't quite a book, so stick with me here. Once again on yahoo personals, I log in, I'm all excited to see I have 1 new message, YES! Someone thinks I'm hot. No, actually quite the opposite. Some guy, whose name fails to escape me, decided to write me a note to tell me I looked like I was brushing my teeth in the picture I had up. Now mind you, one, I didn't ask for critiques of the picture but two, this guy doesn't even have a picture up! So I rather smart-ass-edly responded that I didn't ask for his opinion, nor was I afraid to put a picture up, and apparently he was.

Gotta love online dating, ahhh the joys.

Alright I've wrote a book, so time to get back to work. But tonight I will post a recipe for my dinner, which is going to be Baked Parmesan Orange Roughy. YUM!

Toodles,
Kate

Good Morning

I decided to migrate the recipes over to a sit of their own, since there are people who would like to see the recipes, and not read about my life (I know it's soooo interesting people just can't resist, haha). So you can find the new recipe site here. Enjoy!

Menu Monday

Well here is the menu for today. I did pretty well. I will post the recipe for the quiche tomorrow.

On another note, I'm doing everything I can to not sit down in front of the tv with a half gallon of ice cream and eat away, because I am depressed. I am a dog lover at heart, and I heard about a purebred golden retriever who is going to be taken to the pound in the morning, just because no one wants him. I feel so guilty for not taking him, but I don't think I could handle two dogs. So sad...

These peanuts are the devil. They are what I ate 10.5 points worth of yesterday evening. All things aside, they were rather delicious, but I could've thought of a better way to use 10.5 points. But, I accounted for all of them, and I didn't use any flex and ended the night with 1.5 points of activity points left, so while eating that much wasn't exactly a good thing, it all worked out.

Overall, my weekend was great. The weather here was 70-75 all weekend, without a cloud in the sky. Perfect in my book.

Friday night, I actually went and met a girlfriend for dinner, and that was nice. Saturday, it was such a nice day, I went over and grabbed my dad's new mustang and went tooling around, love that car. And of course to boost the good ol' self esteem I got hit on about 8 times while I was out with it. Then I went out rock climbing with my brothers and got some kickass activity points. Then we went out to dinner with my parents, then home and out grocery shopping with the roommate. Needless to say, by the time I managed to sit down it was after 11, and I was wiped out. What a day.

Yesterday, I got up early and went to church with my parents (what a good girl I am, haha) and then came home and began a long process of washing and waxing my truck. I spent about 5 hours on it, and I have at least another three or four left, perhaps I will get it done this coming weekend. After that, I went and looked at a dog I was thinking about adopting, and he was a sweetheart. But I decided after much contemplation, the one dog I have is enough right now. He's spoiled rotten, and I don't feel I could give the other dog the luxuries I have given Duke. I know, they are just Dogs, but Duke is like my child.

After all of this, I went over to eat at my mom and dad's, had dinner, came home, and was wiped out. Managed to get laundry done, but that was about the end of being productive.

I was planning on trying Yoga again tonight at a new place, but quite frankly, I just feel like being lazy, so that's exactly what I am going to do.

Anyways, menu will be posted later this evening. Until then, Stay on Track, it's the only way you'll get to GOAL!

Menu 4/22/07

Well, I did pretty good today, until dinner that is. I had an "incident" with peanuts, that ended in using about 10.5 points (although I think I might have overestimated). Luckily, I had activity points, since I spent about 5 or 6 hours waxing my truck on this gorgeous day, so I came out of the day without using any flex. Yay for Activity Points. Well here is my menu for the day, weekend wrap up tomorrow.

And a Happy Friday to you..

I've been saying I was going to try Yoga for quite sometime, and I've been a combination of lazy and standoffish about it. Well I finally tried it last night for the first time. It was definitely different. I don't know what I was expecting, in fact I think I went in with little or not expectations of what it would be like.

First of all, I would love to say thanks to the folks over at Ann Arbor Yoga, they were great, very accommodating, and made sure that the experience was great. They were friendly and helpful.

Second, I'll tell you I didn't enjoy it. I think Yoga is one of those things that is just for certain people, and I'm not one of them. I think the biggest reason I didn't like it is just because I almost fell asleep, multiple times. I guess the other reason I didn't like it is just because I have no grace, what-so-ever. Yoga is one of those things that when you watch people who do it (and are good at it) they are very graceful. Me on the other hand, I looked like an elephant in a china shop. I'm sure it was amusing to the instructor nonetheless.

So, I've decided I will try something new next week. I'm going to try to get to an "activity" several times a week. Looks like next week, I have several options at local community rec centers, or other local fitness establishments that allow drop in. I am defiantly going to do spinning one day next week, I've done it before and I liked it, so I will try that again. Other than that it will be some sort of fitness class like kick boxing or toning deal. Should be fun, and I'll keep you updated.

It's finally gorgeous here in Michigan. It's nice once the weather turns you can finally get outside and be active. Today, Saturday and Sunday is suppose to be in the 70's and sunny, YES! I'm hoping to maybe dust off the Rollerblades this weekend, and also get the mountain bike out. I'm either going to go biking at the trails at the Metropark or hit the trails at Maybury State Park, I haven't decided yet. But as you can tell, I forsee and active weekend ahead and I'm pumped.

Weigh In is tomorrow. This is the week that I typical don't lose because of TOM, but we will see, and I'll keep you posted!

A gorgeous day in Michigan

Well now, I was trying to promise myself that I would make an actual post everyday in this blog, but yesterday I just did a recipe post, not good Kate, Not Good! One day out and I'm falling off the wagon.

Well yesterday eating wise was a good day. I managed to stay busy in the evening which meant that I wasn't sitting around bored, and wonder what I was going to eat next. I swear pre-Weight Watchers, I was never this obsessed with food. I suppose the good comes with the bad. Does anyone else find that since you've began to watch what you eat, it's almost an obsession?

So now that's I've been sidetracked, back to yesterday and eating. Below is my menu, with links to the recipes. Yum! I hope you guys can enjoy. The Confetti Corned Beef Hash really wasn't bad, but it just wasn't that good either. I think maybe it needs more spices, or something. But I had it over rice, and it was filling, so that's what matters the most.

You will always find my recipe for a "Brownie Sundae", this is my favorite "bad treat". It's actually not even bad for you, only 4 points, but it's just heavenly. Try it, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Tonight for dinner I'm having a Chicken Stew, I know it's good, because I've made it before. I will try and post the recipe for that later on, I know it's crazy filling, and really low in points, which is always a bonus.

Tonight I have yoga for the first time at Ann Arbor Yoga. I've never tried it, but I'm hoping I don't fall asleep. I've heard that it's very slow, after all the point of yoga is to relax. I will keep you posted on how it goes. I've been told if yoga is to slow, to try pilates, so I might be trying that next. Just worried that Yoga might be to slow, this is coming from me, who enjoys wall climbing and downhill skiing.

I was suppose to get a massage tomorrow evening, but I have a friend who needs an shoulder to cry on, so I canceled that appointment. But it was an awesome deal, $25 for 45 minutes at the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy

Alright well, here is my menu from yesterday, only went over a half point into flex! This evening I will post the recipe for Chicken Stew, and my menu from today. Weigh In on Saturday! Yay!

And I'm going to join the blogosphere...

So I started this blog in March, and I'm just getting around to posting for the first time, and getting everything in order. This first post is going to be a little "about me" for whatever future readers I may or may not have. In my dreams, I will have a lot of people who come on a regular basis to check out recipes, and ideas that I leave.

So a little about me. I'm 25, and I'm for Michigan. I've never really concerned myself with my weight, as I was never terribly overweight or heavy by any means, although I have to admit, like most women I was never quite happy with the weight I was. But in High School (now looking back) I was pretty lean, and I was involved in sports, so I stayed active enough that I could eat whatever I wanted, and not worry too much about gaining.

Fast forward a couple years, and I got my way through college, without really gaining much for weight, I may have put on a few pounds, but due to a busy schedule, and a job that kept me on my feet, I didn't gain much. Then in July of 2003 I got my first desk job. I would have to say probably in the first year I put on about 5-10lbs. Not a lot by any means, but for someone who was always bordering being overweight anyways, it was a lot. At the time, I didn't do anything about it, nor did I really care. Over the next several years, I got into the habits it seems every grown up does, I went to work, I came home, I ate what I wanted, didn't stay active enough, settled into a relationship, and just got comfortable.

Well in January of 2007, I was at my heaviest, which was 167 pounds. Before that, I can't tell you what I weighed each year, because I didn't believe in scales. But when I got on the scale, and I realized I weighed that much, I knew it was time for a change, so I joined weight watchers.

Now on my 14th week of weight watchers, I couldn't be happier with the progress, nor the ease of weight watchers. Like everyone I do struggle, but I find I can eat what I want in moderate amounts. It just surprises me how out of control my portions had gotten, and how bad some of the foods I thought were good for me were.

So here I am, now 14.6lbs lighter, minus a boyfriend, and feeling great. I have 12.8lbs until I hit my major goal of 140lbs, although I think ultimately I would like to hover between 135 and 140, and on my 5 foot 8 frame, I think that is reasonable, and wouldn't be too skinny.

So what will you find in this blog? Your going to find a little bit of everything. You will hear about my ups and downs with weight watchers (including the times I "fall off the wagon"), you will see posting of recipes that I've tried, along with points values, you'll get updates when I weigh in and you'll get tidbits about my life.

I hope those of you who meander on over will stick around for the ride!

Until next time,
Kate
